What is Your pH Level?

by Island Superfoods on June 4, 2012

The pH level is one of the most important balance systems of the body. The term pH stands for “potential” of “Hydrogen”.  It is the amount of hydrogen ions in a particular solution. The more ions, the more acidic the solution.  The fewer ions the more alkaline (base) the solution.

The pH level is a measure of acidity or alkalinity, on a scale of zero to fourteen, with zero being most acid, fourteen being most alkaline and seven being mid-range.

Any slight decrease in the pH level, reduces the oxygen in the blood and increases the chance of diseases in your body and well as the effects of aging. Diet directly affects your pH level.  Coffee, sugar, meat, alcohol, caffeine, vinegar, cheese, and prescription drugs, just to name a few, have a significant negative impact on pH levels.  An alkaline diet is essential to ensuring that  the pH level remains in the zone.

The diet should consist 80% of the following alkalizing foods: raw vegetables, fruits, water, figs, sprouts and miso.  Unfortunately, most Americans eat a diet rich in processed food with 80% being acidic.  It is very difficult for your body to form diseases if it is in an alkaline state.  You can test your pH levels by using pH test paper with saliva or urine.  In addition to a predominantly alkalizing diet, try our Marine Plankton, Glow and Noni Fire to help restore your pH to its optimum level.
